Matthew Perry's cause of death revealed! Autopsy confirms 'acute effects of ketamine'

According to CBS News, The Los Angeles County medical examiner released an autopsy report on Friday stating that Matthew Perry, the well-loved star of the sitcom "Friends," passed away due to the acute effects of ketamine. The report mentioned that Perry, who was 54 years old, was discovered unresponsive at his residence on October 28, floating face down in the heated end of the pool.

According to the report, the death was deemed accidental and there were no indications of any malicious intent. The cause of death is attributed to the "acute effects of ketamine," while additional factors include "drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine" (a medication employed in the treatment of opioid use disorder).

According to witness statements included in the autopsy report, the actor had left to engage in a game of pickleball at approximately 11 a.m. on the morning of his demise. He then returned home two hours later. Subsequently, his assistant left to run errands, marking the final sighting of Perry before his untimely passing. Upon the assistant's return, the actor was discovered lifeless. The police were called, and at 4:17 p.m., they officially declared him deceased.

"At the high levels of ketamine found in his post-mortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression," senior deputy medical examiner Raffi Djabourian wrote, according to the Press Association, as quoted in BBC  News.

"Drowning contributes due to the likelihood of submersion into the pool as he lapsed into unconsciousness; coronary artery disease contributes due to exacerbation of ketamine-induced myocardial effects on the heart."

On 28 October, he was discovered unresponsive at his residence, and when paramedics arrived at the scene, they declared his passing. The following day, the medical examiner's office revised their records to indicate that his case had been postponed, typically implying that the autopsy had been conducted but further information was required.
