Kerala is set to make a name for itself in the digital entertainment industry with the launch of CSpace, India's first government-backed OTT platform. The platform, which will launch on Thursday, aims to provide a unique blend of informative and entertaining content tailored for the masses, according to an official statement released on Tuesday. On March 7, at 9.30 a.m., Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch the OTT platform at Kairali Theatre. Saji Cherian, Minister for Cultural Affairs, will preside.
During a press conference, renowned filmmaker and Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) Chairman Shaji N Karun mentioned that the OTT platform is being introduced to address the numerous issues and growing imbalances in the OTT industry. According to him, "CSpace is essentially a response to the growing imbalances and multifarious challenges in the OTT sector in terms of content selection and propagation," according to HT.
CSpace: What is it?
CSpace is managed by Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), a state-owned company entrusted with promoting Malayalam cinema and industry.
This OTT platform will be released on behalf of the Kerala government's Department of Cultural Affairs. KSFDC has formed a curator panel of 60 members, including prominent cultural figures from the state, to select and approve the content.
Benyamin, OV Usha, Santhosh Sivan, Shyamaprasad, Sunny Joseph, and Jeo Baby are among the most prominent cultural figures. Every piece of content submitted to the platform will be evaluated by three curators from the panel for its artistic, cultural, and informative value.
Award-winning movies such as 'Nishiddho' and 'B32 to 44' will be released through CSpace. The platform will operate on a pay-per-view basis, allowing viewers to buy a full-length movie for Rs 75, while shorter content will be available at a lower price.
