Despite receiving great reviews, Kartik Aaryan's most recent film, Chandu Champion, has underperformed at the box office, marking his lowest opening in years. Kabir Khan directed the inspirational sports biopic based on the life of Murlikant Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medal winner.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Chandu Champion made barely Rs 5.4 crore on its first day. For Aaryan, whose films have often had good opening weekends since Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, his breakthrough blockbuster in 2015, this number is noticeably low. After his two poor films, Tubelight and 83, Kabir Khan, who is a well-known director of blockbusters like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ek Tha Tiger, was also hoping for a smash.
Munjya, a sleeper blockbuster that is still attracting audiences, is a supernatural thriller that presents fierce competition for Chandu Champion despite its massive promotion. Chandu Champion will need to perform well in the upcoming days to maintain its momentum at the box office.
