Jungkook & Justin Timberlake's '3D' remix ignites ARMY backlash

The collaborative remix of BTS Jungkook's solo track '3D' from the album 'GOLDEN' with Justin Timberlake has been released on November 24.

On November 23, BIGHIT, following its signature style, updated fans on the new remix of Jungkook's 3D featuring Jack Harlow. The surprise addition of 'once a pop prince Justin Timberlake' did not sit well with a segment of fans who perceive Timberlake as 'extremely problematic' due to recent controversies.

But this collaboration became a trending topic among Kpop Fans mostly due to the controversy surrounding Timberlake’s history and his support for Israel.

Fans showed their disappointment and concern, and questioning HYBE Labels, upon the collaboration of Jungkook with Justin Timberlake, labelling him as extremely problematic. Fans took to social media and addressed the bad timing of the decision of collaboration, and with an artist whose public image has experienced a significant decline.

Kpop fans are one of a kind, known for their passion towards their idols and whom they are collaborating with. The controversy began when fans delved into Timberlake's history, uncovering a few controversies. A user compiled various controversial incidents such as allegations of involvement in Britney Spears's abortion and accusations of promoting rumours about her on radio shows for personal gain.

The controversy escalated further with fans pointing out Timberlake's stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. In a climate where global issues are under intense scrutiny, the revelation that Timberlake signed a letter praising US President Joe Biden's support for Israel sparked outrage. Many labeled him an 'Israel Supporter,' adding fuel to the fire of discontent surrounding the collaboration

One user, apparently unaware of Timberlake's controversial past, expressed surprise, saying, "I had no clue Justin Timberlake was problematic until today."

Similar sentiments were expressed by others, questioning the collaboration, especially considering that 40% of the tweets on the day of the release were focused on Justin Bieber, not Timberlake.

Another user suggested promoting 3D with an extended remix featuring just Jungkook.

However, not all netizens were quick to condemn the collaboration. Some argued that the decision might have been made before the recent controversies, highlighting Timberlake's existing collaborations with other artists and projects like 'Trolls Band Together.'

Despite the outcry, there were voices suggesting that people could boycott quietly, asserting that fans don't typically engage much with remixes.
