Jung-E movie review: This sci-fi thriller is deeply emotional and exciting

Yeon Sang-ho's sci-fi movie JUNG_E is both thrilling and moving. Despite its uneven pace, it succeeds where it matters: with pulsating action, moving drama, and big questions about humanity's place in the universe, class, and technology. The film depicts a desolate Earth in the 22nd century that is no longer habitable as a result of climate change.

It also follows a terminally ill scientist on her quest to clone her mother and create an army from her consciousness. Along with some very entertaining action sequences, it presents some fascinating concepts regarding technology and class. The film's epic action scene at the end is beautifully edited and performed.

The film manages to stand out from its peers in the genre in spite of occasionally mesmerizing effects work, performances that make you want to watch more, and sentimentality that is simple but effective. Anyone who enjoys both action and science fiction should watch Jung_E.
