Warner Bros dropped the most anticipated Teaser Trailer of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, co-written and directed by Tod Phillips, where Oscar winning actor Joaquin Phoenix makes a comeback as the clown prince of crime, Arthur Fleck, also known as The Joker, with Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. It is a sequel of the 2019 psychological thriller Joker.
Meet Joker’s Lady Love Harley Quinn
Lady Gaga joins the cast as Harley Quinn, Arthur’s love interest and fellow eccentric. While in Markham Asylum, Arthur meets and falls in love with fellow inmate Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn. In the comic book, Harley Quinn was a psychiatrist at the Asylum, so that is one change. The two are seen dancing and causing mayhem in the town after most likely escaping the asylum together.
Let’s talk about the Trailer
In the roughly two-minute teaser, Arthur is shown as being incarcerated for his crimes at Arkham Asylum in Gotham City and being taunted by the guards, who ask him to make a joke for them. Then, Harley Quinn, makes an entry, seduces Arthur. She claims that she admires him since he has accomplished far more in life than she has. Both fall in love, and then they are on the run while also dancing and singing in fanciful musical numbers, as she wants them to break out.
The title Joker: folie à deux, gives away that these two are sharing delusion or mental illness while being in close association. Tom Jones and Sammy Davis Jr.'s "What the World Needs Now Is Love" serves as the soundtrack .
It is a Musical!
In the first teaser, Gotham City's streets, stages, and rooftops were all scenes of Arthur and Harley dancing. The film will be "mostly a jukebox musical," Variety reports, with at least 15 new renditions of "very well-known" songs.
Director of "Joker" and "Joker: Folie à Deux," Todd Phillips, called the upcoming picture "a movie where music is an essential element" during the Warner Bros. presentation.
However, Phillips resisted the notion that the new "Joker" is a traditional "musical" in his CinemaCon speech.
“We’ve never talked about it like that. It’s a movie where music is an essential element,” he said. The director and Phoenix talked about the fact that in the original "Joker," “Arthur is weird and aloof, but he has music in him. He has grace in him. It didn’t seem like that big a step to what we do here.”
Oscar Nominated Joker
The first "Joker" was a terrifying origin story that divided reviewers but did very well at the box office. It was the sixth highest-grossing movie globally in 2019 and the first R-rated film to make over $1 billion.
The main plot of "Joker" followed Arthur's journey from being a struggling comic in Gotham City to turning into a villain. He is seen talking with a social worker while being held captive in Arkham Asylum at the conclusion of the movie.
The movie received eleven Oscar nominations. For his portrayal of the legendary supervillain in the first "Joker," which was also nominated for best picture, Phoenix won an Oscar in 2020 for best actor.
Who all are in the Cast?
Steve Coogan, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazie Beetz will return to the Cast of Joker Sequel. Todd Phillips and Scott Silver wrote the script for the movie. The person handling the music is Hildur Guonadottir. It is also revealed that a number of additional actors, including Harry Lawtey and Jacob Lofland, are cast in "Joker 2."
We can expect a plot centred around a Dark and Twisted love story from Joker: Folie à Deux, which will hit theatres on October 4, 2024.
