Renowned Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is set to venture back into the realm of directing with an upcoming biopic titled "Modi." However, before assumptions are made, it's important to clarify that the film does not revolve around Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Instead, Depp will helm a project centred around the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, affectionately known as Modi among his circle of friends. Alongside Depp, the film will be co-produced by esteemed figures such as Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
Set to be presented to potential buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, the highly-anticipated project will showcase actor Riccardo Scamarcio in the role of Modigliani. Additionally, Pierre Niney will portray French artist Maurice Utrillo, while the esteemed Al Pacino takes on the character of art collector Gangnat. Production for the film is scheduled to commence in Budapest during the upcoming fall season.
Drawing inspiration from Dennis McIntyre's play Modigliani, the film's screenplay is skillfully crafted by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski. Unfolding within a concise 48-hour timeframe, the narrative follows Modigliani's desperate attempt to abandon his career and elude the authorities. This captivating story seeks to illuminate the intriguing dynamics between the painter and his sculptor friend in 1916 Paris, showcasing how this turbulent two-day period became a definitive turning point in Modigliani's life, solidifying his status as a true artistic legend.
