Twenty-five years after it first broke box-office records, Titanic is returning to theaters on Feb. 10. Paramount Pictures announced the re-release on Twitter with a new trailer and a 25th-anniversary poster. The film will be re-released in theaters on Friday, February 10.
Titanic is a 1997 American epic romance and disaster film directed, written, and co-produced by James Cameron. The film is centered around the ill-fated voyage of the RMS Titanic, which famously struck an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912.
The film is based on the true story of the Titanic disaster and follows the romance between two fictional characters, Jack and Rose, who were played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, respectively. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $2 billion at the box office and becoming the highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release.
The film was nominated for 14 Academy Awards and won 11, including Best Picture, Best Director for James Cameron, and Best Original Song for "My Heart Will Go On" James Cameron personally directed and oversaw many of the effects used in the film, and even dived to the real titanic wreckage site multiple times for research and filming.
The film featured an all-star cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Gloria Stuart, and Frances Fisher. The film's musical score was composed by James Horner and the Theme song "My Heart Will Go On" was written by James Horner and Will Jennings and was sung by Celine Dion.
The film's production cost was $200 million, which was the most expensive film ever made at the time.
The film was re-released in 3D in 2012 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
Director James Cameron's multi-Academy Award-winning Titanic will be released in 4K and 3D for a limited time beginning Feb. 10.
