James Cameron Hopes to Direct the Last Train from Hiroshima Before Avatar 4

After taking the world by storm after the release of Avatar: The Way of The Water, James Cameron is set to direct more of the Avatar franchise in the future, but he still wants to find time to work on another film before beginning work on Avatar 4.

Cameron stated that although the upcoming third Avatar film is of utmost importance to him, before starting work on Avatar 4, he would want to direct the adaptation of Charles R. Pellegrino's book The Last Train From Hiroshima: The Survivors Lost Book which illustrates life in Hiroshima and Nagasaki around the time of the atomic bombings.

Considering Cameron’s past work and his experience with the portrayal of disastrous historical events, his adaptation of Pellegrino’s book is something cinephiles should be looking forward to. The project was originally discussed by the filmmaker around the time the book was published in 2010 where he said, “It’s a subject that I’ve wanted to do a film about, that I’ve been wrestling with how to do it, over the years, and I don’t have an answer yet. [Pellegrino’s] book is one of the presumably many sources that I’ll use for information to be as historically accurate as possible.”

Along with Avatar: The Way of The Water, Cameron simultaneously began filming the next movie, Avatar 3. Currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028, respectively, the fourth and fifth Avatar films are also in various stages of production.
