The Hindi remake of the Spanish series Elite, Class, is a teen crime drama on Netflix that takes place in Hampton International, a wealthy Delhi school. The show is about rumours and secrets about a bunch of students at the school that lead to murder.
Suhani Ahuja, a student, was killed in the series' first episode. Class is told from the point of view of various characters who have been asked questions about the murder. The plot gradually shifts to teenage retaliation, sexcapades, drugs, infatuations, and insecurities.
There are subplots involving teenage pregnancy, infatuations and affairs, and the past of some of the students, in addition to the murder mystery that serves as the main plot. The Hindi adaptation appears exaggerated and unreal, whereas the Spanish original was praised as an excellent thriller.
Casteism, the plight of Kashmiri migrants, and homosexuality are just a few of the socially relevant topics being discussed. However, the attempt seems to be more tokenistic than real tough-n-feel. The narrative also suffers from the overcrowding of numerous subplots, leaving the audience somewhat perplexed.
The writing and dialogue have the right amount of vigour and punch. The show looks excellent, largely thanks to the music and background score. The class will feel like a first-hand experience with some shock value if you haven't watched Elite.
