Anurag Kashyap is the latest celebrity to compliment Vidhu Vinod Chopra on his film 12th Fail. In a lengthy letter, Anurag recounted meeting Manoj Kumar Sharma, the IPS officer the movie is based on and expressed his inability to picture his narrative as it is presented in the movie. The lead in the film “12th Fail” was played by actor Vikrant Massey.

Anurag referred to "12th Fail" as a new benchmark set by Vidhu, and identified himself as one of many filmmakers who may be "a little bit lost." He also deemed it the finest mainstream movie of 2023. On Facebook, the filmmaker posted a poster of Vikrant's movie.
Sharing his experience of the film, here’s what Anurag had to say,
“Probably the best mainstream film I’ve seen in 2023 @vidhuvinodchoprafilms at the age of 71 has crafted a masterpiece out of a simple story of an adamant man wanting to be more than what life gives him. He goes and takes what he wants and how. What amazed me about the film is how he breaks all conventions of mainstream and has scenes done in simple long shots.”

What struck right for “12th fail” making it a masterpiece
Anurag described his favourite aspects of the film, including its cinematography. Without giving away too many details, he mentioned some scenes, including the crowd scenes of Mukherji Nagar, wherein the story unfolds and the subtle background music in that scene uplifts the narrative to great extents. The Wasseypur director was all praises for the entire team of the film, including actors, music directors, and the director of the film.
When Anurag met the REAL Manoj Kumar Sharma
Anurag recalled the time when he met the real-life IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma in the past, on whom the film 12th Fail is based.
“I have met Manoj and I’ve read the book but I never could have seen it how VVC saw it. It’s on Hotstar and a must-watch. I was unlucky to find time to see it in cinemas but saw it on my personal screen but do give this film a shot,” he said.
“12th Fail” is a Hindi language 2023 movie that portrays the true story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who rose from hardship to become an IPS officer. It also chronicles his journey with Shraddha Joshi, his wife, an IRS officer, who supported him through difficult times.
