Finally, the Met Gala 2024 red carpet is here, and celebrities arrived dressed in their interpretation of the theme 'The Garden of Time'. Kendall Jenner appeared at the event wearing an archival Givenchy piece from the haute couture 1999 collection, while co-host Zendaya donned a reinvented look from Christian Dior's 1999 collection by John Galliano. As the red carpet arrivals got busier, it was evident that, compared to previous years, Indian fashion has the greatest global representation this time around on the biggest night of the year. Numerous well-known names have secured spots on the Met carpet. From Alia Bhatt to budding star Ambika Mod, here are all the Indians who attended the Met Gala this year

What is the Met Gala

The Met Gala, or Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala, is an annual fundraising event hosted in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Known as the "Super Bowl of Fashion" or the "Oscars of the East Coast," it's one of the most important events on the fashion calendar.

The Met Gala's key objective is to raise funds for the Costume Institute, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's only self-funded department. Tickets to the Gala are extraordinarily costly, frequently costing more than $10,000 each, and tables can cost over $100,000.

Alia Bhatt attended the Met Gala 2024 wearing a custom-designed mint green Sabyasachi sari. Bhatt's sari, styled by her longtime stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania, was adorned with genuine diamonds and had a 23-foot-long train in commemoration of the theme, 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion'. Bhatt made her runway debut in Prabal Gurung couture at the 2023 Met Gala. The theme of the event was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," and she dressed accordingly, donning a white gown that was adorned with more than a million pearls. Indian artisans worked on the elaborate embroidery on her robe.

Natasha Poonawalla attended the 2024 Met Gala with a custom Margiela gown designed by John Galliano, the fashion industry's favorite designer at the moment. The Indian heiress completed her ensemble with sky-high platform Christian Louboutins. Poonawalla previously made a big impression at the Met Gala in 2022 by dressing in an ensemble from Sabyasachi x Schiaparelli that flawlessly embodied the theme of "Gilded Glamour." Few can convey the subject as masterfully as Natasha Poonawalla did in 2022 when she walked the Met Gala red carpet wearing a structured Schiaparelli bustier and a custom-designed golden sari by Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

Fluttering butterflies inspired an ode to the dress code 'The Garden of Time'. Her outfit included marbled cloth adorned with Van Herpen's trademark sculptures. The 3D butterflies that Patel wore on her sleeves, adding a whimsical touch to her ensemble, were the focal point of her evening wear.

The Hyderabad-based Indian billionaire attended the Met Gala in a custom Tarun Tahiliani ivory silk gown, adorned with jewels from her collection. While celebrities frequently turn to venerable jewelry stores to obtain their carats and appropriate some of their symbols, Reddy's Amore Eterno necklace was a formidable competitor. A staggering 180 carats in total weight from a 25-solitaire necklace and two roughly 25-carat diamond rings are sure to make an impact. This is Reddy's second time attending the event; the first time was in 2021, and the businesswoman wore an opulent Falguni Shane Peacock gown.

Isha Ambani drew everyone's attention during the 2024 Met Gala. She opted to don an exquisite long floral train couture sari outfit by Indian designer Rahul Mishra. Isha was styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania for the occasion, and the stylist posted pictures of Isha's Met Gala outfit on Instagram, indicating that it was heavily influenced by this year's "The Garden of Time" dress code. The elaborate hand-embroidered appearance was created in Rahul Mishra's workshops in several Indian villages, supporting hundreds of regional weavers and craftspeople. With a "clutch crafted by Swadesh using the ancient Indian art forms of Nakashi and miniature painting," Isha enhanced her gown.
