Guinness World Records (GWR) has declared Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, professionally known as The Weeknd, as the most popular artist globally. The Canadian singer has set two new world records, according to GWR. He currently holds the record for the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify, with 111.4 million as of March 20. Abel has also achieved the distinction of being the first artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on a digital music service app. Miley Cyrus is The Weeknd's top Spotify rival with 82.4 million monthly listeners, followed by Shakira, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and closest male challenger Ed Sheeran, in that order.
