The 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa will open with the British film "Catching Dust" and close with the American film "The Featherweight." Hollywood actor Michael Douglas will be honoured with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at the festival, which is organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur announced the festival lineup, including the introduction of the best web series OTT award, in response to the growing popularity of the entertainment and OTT sectors. The festival will feature 32 entries from 15 OTT platforms competing for the inaugural Best Web Series Award.
There are fifteen films vying for the coveted Golden Peacock Award, which carries a Rs 40 lakh cash award. Of these, twelve are international and three are Indian. Shekhar Kapur, the filmmaker, will serve as the head of the international jury. The National Film Development Corporation and the National Film Archive of India have restored seven films, which will be screened at IFFI. These include the Hindi films "Haqeeqat" and "Guide," the Telugu film "Patala Bhairavi," the Bengali films "Vidyapati" and "Chorus," the Marathi film "Shyamchi Aai," and the Telugu film "Vidyapati." In an effort to support the visual effects sector in Indian cinema, the festival will also include a dedicated VFX and Tech pavilion.
In addition to IFFI, a co-production market event called the Film Bazaar will showcase 20 films from 11 different nations. The government also declared that films like "83" and "Bhaag Mikha Bhaag" will have embedded sign language for the hearing impaired, and films like "Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai" and "Shershaah" will be made available with embedded audio descriptions for the visually impaired. A few Indian Panorama films will also have multiple languages of dubbing available.
