The 2024 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles was dominated by Shogun and The Bear when it came to the drama and comedy scenes, but a shocking moment played off with Best Comedy as Hacks, a sitcom that had producer father Daniel Levy and son Eugene Levy hosting.

Shogun and The Bear Dominate
Last night belonged to the period drama Shogun, an epic over feudal Japan, and to The Bear, a comedy-drama centered around a chaotic Chicago restaurant. It picked up multiple awards last night, including Best Drama for the two-night miniseries Shogun and Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Jeremy Allen White who portrays a stressed head chef in The Bear.
Hacks surprises in comedy
And while several acts were heavy favorites to win big in the comedy category, it was clear that Hacks was a surprise winner and therefore took home the Best Comedy award. And in a related coup, The star of Hacks, Jean Smart also emerged as Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

Shogun Breaks Emmy Record
Shogun became the most-awarded drama in a single season with 14 wins in minor categories, surpassing Game of Thrones. The epic saga made Emmy history even before the main ceremony even began. Despite stiff competition from The Crown, Shogun emerged as the top winner of the night.
The Emmy Awards were streamed internationally, with platforms like Lionsgate Play bringing the ceremony to viewers in India.
