Ranveer Singh's involvement in the upcoming Don 3 has finally been confirmed after weeks of rumours. He succeeds Shah Rukh Khan, who portrayed the title character in two Don films that were released between 2006 and 2011. Amitabh Bachchan first portrayed the role in the 1978 box office success Don.
A video released online by Excel Entertainment served as the announcement. A man is shown in the opening scene of the film sitting on the floor of a big room and gazing at the neon-lit skyline of an unidentified city. The skyline itself seems to be a mashup of various cities. The persona gently stands up, removes his hood, and lights a cigarette.
"Kya hai taakat meri," he responds. "Kya hai himmat meri, phir dikhane ko," he says. Before concluding with the catchphrases made famous first by Amitabh and then by Shah Rukh, "Tum toh hai jaante, my name is," "Maut se khelna zindagi hai meri, jeetna hi mera kaam hai (I'm back to show you what I'm made of)," and "Maut se khelna zindagi hai meri," The phrase "11 Mulkon Ki Police Dhoondti Hai, Par Paaya Hai Mujhko Kaun" is the central figure.
Shah Rukh's return was originally intended for Don 3, but the movie was never successful despite years of devoted fan support. Farhan Akhtar, who also directed the two SRK films, will head Don 3, which is scheduled for release in 2025. Whether this affects the already-announced Jee Le Zaraa, starring Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif, is still unknown. Following the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which came after a succession of disappointments, Don 3 is the first movie that Ranveer has confirmed. He is also speculated to be associated with the next Shaktimaan revival.
