Dogs join orchestra in Mozart performance in Denmark

Over the weekend, three dogs performed a symphony piece on stage at a music festival in Denmark using just their barks as instruments.

In a performance of Leopold Mozart's "Hunting Symphony," Cookie, Sica, and Sophus joined the Danish Chamber Orchestra, according to AFP.

Leopold Mozart was the father of Wolfgang Amadeus, and in contemporary symphony performances, dogs on recordings rather than live ones are typically used.

"The symphony is in three movements and in the last movements, we will hear the hunt begin and we will have shootings, and then the dogs will start to bark," Andreas Veto, head of the orchestra, told AFP.

Before the performance at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Veto announced that it was a part of the Sunday Haydn Festival in Copenhagen.

The dogs didn't just show up off the street; in spring, they went through an audition process. According to the BBC, dozens of canines applied for the coveted positions, but only three were selected. The canines practiced with their owners and were given rewards when they barked in rhythm with the music after demonstrating their barking prowess.
