Doctor G collections dropping - Is it worth a watch?

Bollywood actor Ayushmaan Khurrana is known for his choice of roles and experimental cinema. This time he has come back to wow the audiences with another such attempt called Doctor G, by Anubhuti Kashyap. The movie was released on October 14 and had a decent 15 crore weekend. But the weekday collections of the film seem to be dropping with stronger rivals like Kantara and Black Adam hogging the theatre-window limelight.

The story of the movie is written by Sumit Saxena, Saurabh Bharat, Vishal Wagh, and Anubhuti herself. Junglee Pictures are known for bringing good family cinema to audiences with a history of Raazi and Badhaai ho to their credit. Their current venture Doctor G seems to be drawn on similar lines to entertain moviegoers. The music of the film has been composed by Ketan Sodha and Amit Trivedi. The cast includes powerful actors like Ayushmann Khurrana as Dr Uday Gupta, Rakul Preet as Dr Fatima Siddiqui and Shefali shah as Dr Nandini Srivastava.

Ayushmann is playing the role of Uday Gupta who is an ambitious medical student. He wants to become an orthopaedic surgeon in life, but his destiny leads him to Gynecology. Interestingly he is the only male student in the department. The movie is all about the challenges that come his way in a woman-dominated department. The movie is inspired by real-life incidents and sure has its moments of humour.

Although the film is well-made, the collections at the box office are showing a contrasting story. The film has only collected Rs. 18 crores thus far and its best case seems to be Rs. 25 to Rs. 28 crores. It is said that the reduction in ticket prices of Kantara has boosted its business, playing spoilsport to that of Ayushmann's comic endeavour. The film has good, non-cheap attempts at humour, situational comedy and a total do-away of preachy monologues. The director has done her research well so far as the technical aspects of the medical profession she is addressing go, and she is not dialling down the film's intelligence to appeal to multiple types of audiences. The winner of the screenplay of course is Ayushmann all through as he carries yet another difficult role with flamboyant ease.

Ayushmann Khurana Doctor G

The first-time director Anubhuti also said, “Doctor G’ is a coming-of-age comedy-drama set on a medical campus and is a compelling and hilarious look at a male gynaecologist surviving an otherwise female-dominated world. Ayushmann Khurrana has done an amazing job essaying the role of Doctor Uday Gupta. He along with Shefali Shah and Rakul Preet Singh has brought so much to their individual roles that can make one relate to these characters and situations. The film addresses gender stereotypes in his personal and professional life enveloped in comedy and is something that will appeal to young India.”
