It was an emotional day for Army, BTS’s Fanbase as ‘Globally Popular’ BTS members V and RM began their mandatory 18 months military service today, heading to the Nonsan Army Recruit Training Center in Chungcheongnam-do.
Before entering the military, V and RM bid goodbye to their devoted fanbase, the ARMY, through heartfelt messages on Weverse and other social media platforms.
The leader, RM, or Kim Namjoon, penned a heartfelt letter before departuring for 18-month military service. Expressing mixed emotions, he thanked the fans for a decade with the group, stating that the 'end is also a beginning,' anticipating positive experiences upon their return.
“Though I’m scared and fearful as well, what could be more comforting than the fact that there is something to anticipate and look forward to during this uncertain time?," RM penned.
RM closed with a temporary farewell, assuring fans it's just a 'little while' and conveying love and gratitude to the Army. RM, expressed ‘I think I will miss you all. I love you so much. Let’s wait till 2025 to meet again and make new memories.’
While V, expressing his emotions, recognized the difficulty of being apart from the ARMY and shared glimpses of the group's memories, showcasing a new short haircut. He wrote, “I will come back healthier after 18 months, so you should also take care of your health. Let’s make precious memories like we always used to when we come back."
RM and V enlisted on December 11, Park Jimin and Jeon Jungkook will follow on December 12. Meanwhile, Jin, J-Hope, and Suga are already in service, with Suga enlisting in public service due to a shoulder injury.
Jin, the oldest member and the ‘Hyung’ took to Instagram, sharing photos with J-Hope and revealing they took a leave to see off RM and V, stating, "Sergeant corporal (we took a leave)." In pictures with RM and V, Jin emotionally wrote, "Don’t get hurt and come back safely my babies~," leaving fans deeply moved by the heartfelt posts.
BTS as a group has been on hiatus since June 2022, with members seen involving and promoting solo activities. Ahead of their hiatus, BTS as a group will be seen in upcoming Disney+ docuseries "BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star," set to be released on December 20.
Moreover, BTS renewed their exclusive contracts with Big Hit Music last September, signalling a return in 2025 after the members complete their mandatory military service.
