DK Shivakumar on Lifting the Ban
Taking to his official X handle, DK Shivakumar clarified his decision to lift the seal on the Jollywood premises. He emphasized the delicate balance between supporting employment and ensuring environmental compliance.
“Employment is important and give them an opportunity to rectify. I have directed the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru South District to lift the seal on Jollywood premises in Bidadi, where Bigg Boss Kannada is being filmed. While environmental compliance remains a top priority, the studio will be given time to address violations in accordance with the norms set by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board. I remain committed to supporting the Kannada entertainment industry, while also upholding our responsibility toward environmental protection,” Shivakumar posted.
His statement reassured both the entertainment industry and environmental advocates that while the show would resume, necessary environmental measures would still be enforced.
Understanding the Environmental Violation
The closure of the Bigg Boss Kannada 12 set came after KSPCB inspectors discovered significant lapses in environmental compliance. According to NDTV, untreated wastewater from the premises was being discharged openly, posing a serious threat to the surrounding ecosystem.
Although the production team claimed that a 250 KLD-capacity Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) had been installed, inspectors found that the facility lacked proper internal drainage connections. In effect, the STP units were lying idle and uncommissioned, leading to untreated wastewater flowing into the environment.
