Following a recent backlash on Social Media, The confirmation has officially come from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), that Matthew Perry will be recognized at its upcoming TV awards ceremony this year.
As per reports, a spokesperson for BAFTA spoke about Matthew's omission from the tribute. The spokesperson said "I can confirm Matthew Perry will be remembered in our forthcoming BAFTA Television Awards."

The tribute, set to Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" performed by Hannah Waddingham of "Ted Lasso," honored several individuals including Jane Birkin, Shirley Anne Field, Richard Roundtree, Michael Gambon, Tom Wilkinson, and Carl Weathers, and also paid tribute to Tina Turner for her contributions as both an actor and singer.

Matthew Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 at his residence in Los Angeles. He was discovered unresponsive in a hot tub, as reported by law enforcement. Subsequently, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office determined that the actor's cause of death was attributed to "the acute effects of ketamine," with other contributing factors involved.
In January, Matthew Perry received a touching tribute during the 2023 Emmys' In Memoriam segment. Pop singer Charlie Puth and singer-songwriter duo The War and Treaty performed a heartfelt rendition of the "Friends" theme song ("I'll Be There for You" by The Rembrandts) in his honor.
BAFTA in Controversy!
This all is not new! BAFTA’s In Memoriam segment has faced controversy before as well. Last year, "Doctor Who" actor Phil Davis expressed his resignation from the organisation after they failed to honour Bernard Cribbins, known for his role in "The Railway Children," during the awards show. However, Cribbins was later included in the TV awards In Memoriam segment.
Similarly, Kate Beckinsale recently voiced her frustration online, stating that BAFTA had informed her they couldn't guarantee the inclusion of her stepfather, director Roy Battersby, in the In Memoriam segment following his passing on January 10. It was later when BAFTA confirmed that Battersby would indeed be honoured during the TV awards this spring.
