Article 370 trailer out:  Yet another agenda-driven narrative to be unfolded?

The trailer for National Award-winning director Aditya Suhas Jambhale's Article 370, which stars Yami Gautam, was unveiled on Thursday. The film is produced by filmmaker Aditya Dhar who is popularly known for URI: The Surgical Strike. ‘Article 370’ is set to hit the theatres on the 23 February 2024. The film also stars, south actor Priyamani, and Arun Govil in pivotal roles.

About the film “Article 370”

The film highlights the special status(article 370) given to Kashmir and how an intelligence officer is struggling to work in such conditions. It also depicts the emergence of terrorism in the region, with radicals seeking to seize control of the area. Yami's character soon enlists in the NIA and is given carte blanche to complete a task in Kashmir. The government also promises to eliminate Article 370 at all costs. The trailer depicts how she and the government remain strong despite the conflict caused by political decisions.

Just a picture or politics?

The release of "Article 370" comes before of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In 2019, months ahead of the general elections, director Aditya Dhar's military action film "Uri: The Surgical Strike" was also released. Is it a coincidence? Not really

While addressing agenda-driven critics at the film's trailer launch, Aditya Dhar stated, "The intent of the film is correct, and the intent will always be right as long as I am a filmmaker, producer, and director. I'll quit making films the day the intent is incorrect. Therefore, I don't give a damn about what people think, especially those who are biased critics. Generally, I ignore those who label it as propaganda. I believe that people's perception of this movie as propaganda stems from the propaganda they have internalized. The movie "Article 370" is centered on India. That tale is amazing. It's among the most amazing tales I've ever heard.”

A few weeks ago, the Pankaj Tripathi-starring film Main Atal Hoon was released in theatres; however, neither the crowd nor the critics were kind to it. The film Emergency, starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role of Indira Gandhi, is also scheduled for release during the Lok Sabha elections. Political thrillers have gripped the nation's consciousness ahead of the elections.

On August 5, 2019, the Central government withdrew Article 370, which granted special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, and divided it into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
