Alia Bhatt Starrer Jigra Gets Green Light from High Court

The Rajasthan High Court has canceled an order by a lower court, which had restrained Alia Bhatt's film Jigra in Jodhpur. The ruling comes after a Commercial Court in Jaipur had stayed the film's release after a petitioner filed a trademark violation complaint. It is now that, due to the order from the High Court, the movie will be released on Friday, October 11.

Court Dismisses Trademark Violation Suit

Bench comprising Justices Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Munnuri Laxman has preliminarily put its satisfaction on the record as the title of the film Jigra does not fall foul of Bhallaram Choudhary's trademark rights. "Appellant is not trading in the name Jigra, rather it is Dharma Productions Private Limited", clarified the court. Hence, the incorporation of a title Jigra by Dharma Productions for a film cannot form a valid trademark infringement case. In regard to this, the court commented that the violations complained of may be vindicated through financial damages or other redressal measures and need not be a reason to stop the film from hitting the cinemas.

Claims Advanced by Petitioner Regarding Trademark

Bhallaram Choudhary had sought the restraint of the release of Jigra stating it is a trademark infringement case. His application made it clear that he was running an e-educational group called Jigra and had acquired the trademark in September 2023 under The Trade Marks Act, 1999 in Class 41. It includes services with respect to education, entertainment, and training. Dharma Productions presented the point that business activities by Choudhary didn't run parallel with the goods and services provided by the film, thus means there were no violations of the Trade Marks Act.

Vasan Bala has directed Jigra, a film featuring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina. It is a story of a sister, who goes to all extents for her brother. After all the judgment from the High Court, the movie is released today [11th October] as scheduled.
