The Water Bell is a concept which arose back in 2019. It started in a school in Kerala. It soon became very popular in Telangana, Odisha and Karnataka.
What is the Water Bell?
Schools ring a bell 3 times a day, at 10.35 am, the second at 12 pm and the third at 2 pm. When this bell is rung children are advised to drink water. Hence Water Bell!
Why was it necessary?
The Water Bell was introduced as many children started developing health issues due to not drinking enough water and dehydration. Parents were also complaining that the children would return with a full bottle. Children were not drinking water because they didn't want to go to the washrooms, or sometimes the teacher wouldn't allow children to drink water, as she wouldn't want to disturb her lesson. These reasons were the cause for the introduction of the Water Bell.
Why was it stopped?
The bell was introduced before Covid-19 and after schools reopened they stopped ringing the bell.
What is the development now?
Now Karnataka has said that they will re-start the Water Bell initiative in schools. The timings of the bell will be the same as before. Karnataka hopes that the other states will follow the Water Bell initiative soon. As water is very necessary for the lives of both children and adults.
