The test will be cut in half starting on July 26. It will also have "streamlined instructions and navigation," a shorter reading section, no more questions that were not scored, and a new task called "Writing for an Academic Discussion."
ETS claims that a "simplified registration process" will enable test takers to register for available test dates "quicker and easier than ever before," in addition to shortening the exam.
According to ETS CEO Amit Sevak, "ETS is driving the future of assessment through product innovations across education and learning, and TOEFL is core to that effort."
These enhancements further substantiate the TOEFL's position as the industry standard, which has been in place for nearly six decades. Most importantly, because our customers and stakeholders are our top priority to serve, these enhancements were developed with them in mind.
The TOEFL test was shortened by 30 minutes to three hours in 2019 by ETS, and the PTE Academic test by Pearson was shortened to two hours in 2021.
Various test suppliers - including ETS, Pearson, IELTS, and Michigan Language Evaluation - sent off web-based choices during or following the pandemic in an undeniably aggressive field with players like iTEP, Duolingo English Test, CAEL, and Secret phrase among others.
