Blind School in Jaipur is a dedicated institution for visually impaired children, here students do not let their visual impairment hinder them but instead use their other senses to experience and interpret the world around them. Their exceptional ability to navigate life without sight is a testament to their resilience and ingenuity.
This year, Blind School achieved a 100% success rate in the 10th and 12th-grade board exams, with several students scoring exceptionally high marks.
The school offers education in computers, sports, music, and various other skills.
In conversation with Shri Jithendranath Bhargav ji, the Secretary of the Rajasthan Blind Welfare Association, which was established in 1967, he said,
"At the center, we are currently organizing a camp under the school, where the main activities are as follows: we are teaching Braille to those who do not know it, and for the children who have passed the fifth grade, because contractions and abbreviations in English start from the sixth grade, we are teaching those. "
" We are addressing the weaknesses of the students who are struggling in our school, as the course load is so extensive that it is not possible to address these issues in the classroom, he added."
Summer Vacation Opportunity to Learn New Skills!
Currently a summer break is going on in the school. And the school has organised a summer camp for children, where they are learning new skills every day.
Bhargav Ji told, that during the summer camp, children who do not know Braille are taught the script, and those who have completed the 5th grade are introduced to English contractions and expansions.
Braille Learning!
Jithendranath Bhargav Ji explained to our Vygr Correspondent, the systematic approach to Braille learning, starting with familiarising students with the 63 possible characters in Braille.
Not just traditional but Modern techniques have also been incorporated to aid learning, such as visualising characters' shapes. For instance, the letter 'ग' is described as a square with four dots. This method ensures that students can recall the characters without rote memorization.
100% Pass Rate: Exceptional Talent!
Then Vygr talked to Shri Dharamraj Gurjar, Principal of Rajasthan Blind Higher Secondary School.
He proudly shared " Recent academic results has been good, the school achieved a 100% pass rate in the 8th, 10th, and 12th grades. "
Lokendra Singh topped the 12th grade with 90% marks, and Arpit Agarwal topped the 10th grade with 84.50%. The school also offers free hostel facilities and day schooling for around 100 students, ensuring that education is accessible to all.
Awareness is Important!
Bhargav Ji has emphasised the importance of raising awareness about the increasing rate of blindness due to various causes such as oxygen deprivation in premature babies and other medical conditions. He stressed the need for more support from both governmental and non-governmental organisations to ensure that visually impaired children from marginalised and economically backward sectors can access education.
Technology and education have always been essential for empowering kids with "special abilities," especially those who are blind. Students' interactions with computers have changed dramatically as a result of learning how to use screen-reading programs like NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access), which has allowed them to work and study independently. These kids' happiness and self-assurance are proof of the transformational potential of technology and education.
In conclusion, Blind School in Jaipur is more than just a school; for kids with vision impairments, it is a ray of hope and resiliency. The school is helping students in realising their potential and leading happy lives by giving them the resources and chances to thrive.
