MBBS from IIT? IIT Kharagpur introduces MBBS Course & dual degree in BTech-MTech

Embracing the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, IIT Kharagpur has exciting plans in store. Breaking new ground, the institute has announced the launch of an MBBS course at its prestigious BC Roy Institute of Medical Science and Technology. This move aims to expand its academic offerings and venture into the field of medicine. But that's not all! IIT Kharagpur is taking innovation to another level with the introduction of a dual degree program. This program will allow students to pursue BTech and MTech courses simultaneously, offering a seamless path to multidimensional expertise.

Not stopping there, the institute is also set to launch a four-year bachelor's degree program in science, providing even more educational opportunities for aspiring learners. The cherry on top is that students will have the freedom to select subjects from a wide range of choices across both undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, thanks to the expanded electives. The changes don't end with the course structure. IIT Kharagpur has revamped the internship program, extending the summer internship duration from eight weeks to a substantial eight months, fostering deeper research experiences for undergraduates. Even postgraduate students will have access to internships, enhancing their practical knowledge and skill set.

This effort aims to increase diversity and global participation in the institute's academic community. Meanwhile, a gathering of esteemed directors from various institutions and universities in Andhra Pradesh convened in Tirupati's SV University Senate Hall. Their purpose was to discuss the progress and future plans regarding the implementation of the NEP 2020 in their respective varsities. Many institutions proudly announced their decision to adopt open curriculums and transdisciplinary course structures, promoting a well-rounded education.

Among the visionary directors, IIT-Tirupati's Satyanarayana emphasized the significance of multidisciplinary education and value-based instruction, as highlighted by the NEP 2020. He also lauded the expanded internship opportunities that the policy offers, seeing them as crucial for nation-building and skill development. Raja Reddy and D Bharathi, vice-chancellors of other universities, emphasized the policy's positive impact on university-industry connectivity and community participation.
