Under the second phase of grants obtained through the SATHI (Sophisticated Analytical and Technical Help Institute) scheme authorised by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, the full-fledged state-of-the-art laboratory is being established at the Central Discovery Centre of the varsity.
According to Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, coordinator of BHU-SATHI and director of the Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is establishing a gem testing facility and research laboratory to serve the demands of industry and companies. According to him, this is the first time a laboratory of this nature has been established in this region of the nation.
The lab would contain cutting-edge and sophisticated equipment, including FTIR (Fourier transformation infrared spectroscope), Laser Raman spectroscopy, and ED-XRF (Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer), with an expenditure of 3.75 crores under the project. The lab will also have many other efficient and crucial instruments as well.
According to Prof. Tripathi, this facility in BHU is yet another illustration of industrial and academic cooperation and is consistent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal that science and technology should reach out and meet the needs of common people across the country.
