Zomato faces lawsuit after casteist remark in ad

The food delivery servicing platform, “Zomato” gets a notice issued by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on Monday 12th June. This legal action against the company was due to a casteist advertisement that was filmed by Zomato and posted on June 5, for the theme of World Environment Day.
The advertisement resonates with a Hindi movie called” Lagwan” starring, Aditya Lakhia. The plot revolves around the idea of “Kachra” or waste used to recycle and churn out a new product. However, this was seen as a very humiliating depiction of the Schedule caste community, and it's highly backlashed in social media platforms.

Zomato takes down 'casteist' ad after backlash, issues statement

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes, which is set up under Article 338 of the Constitution, had sent a legal notice stating that, if the company fails to take down the post and acknowledge the notice within the given time, a summon will be sent to be personally present for the lawsuit.
On the notice being sent to Zomato and its Chief Executive Officer, Deepinder Goyal, the company immediately took down the advertisement and apologized for their unintentional act.
