Mamaearth, co-founder received backlash for comparing the Maldives to Mumbai and Nashik

Amid a political schism between India and the Maldives, Mamaearth co-founder Ghazal Alagh encouraged Indians to find their country's attractiveness in a social media post. Alagh was mocked on some parts of the internet over her message, though, and not everyone is pleased with it.

A video that Alagh posted was shot from a helicopter while she was traveling from Mumbai to Nashik. Alagh described her flight from Mumbai to Nashik in the now-viral piece, drawing comparisons between the route's breathtaking grandeur and the Maldives.

"If I told you I was in the Maldives right now, would you believe me? But I'm actually on a helicopter from Mumbai to Nashik. India is on par with the foreign countries we wish to visit. We just need to look into it more," she wrote in the caption.

The tweet has received over 783k views as social media users chastised Alagh for the connection she drew. With a profound connection to their ancestral homeland, one user said amusingly that they could not mistake the unique red, volcanic soil of Maharashtra for the Maldives. Others talked about their explorations of India's undiscovered treasures.

The remarks made by Maldivian officials on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep ignited the diplomatic spat between India and the Maldives. Social media users are now appreciating the beauty of India's tourism sites as a result of the issue.
