According to reports, Elon Musk fired an engineer after he informed him that his Twitter reach and engagement were decreasing. On Tuesday, Musk met with a number of engineers to talk about the algorithm. He also asked his team why he seemed to be getting less popular on the platform he bought for $44 billion.
During the meeting, Musk reportedly told the unidentified sources, "This is ridiculous. Despite having more than 100 million followers, my impressions are only tens of thousands."
The two principal engineers had to come up with a possible explanation. One of them said that since he took over Twitter, his popularity has gone down.
This was supported by the Google Trends chart and internal Twitter data regarding engagement with his account. In April of last year, it was demonstrated to him that Elon Musk was at his "peak" of popularity in search rankings. He even had a score of "100." Now, he has a score of nine.
In addition to terminating the employee, he has instructed others to keep track of the number of times each of his tweets is recommended.
