Amazon has announced plans to deploy internet satellites by 2024 as part of its ambitious Project Kuiper initiative. The company aims to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity to underserved communities around the world. The Project Kuiper satellite constellation will consist of 3,236 low-Earth orbit satellites, with Amazon investing more than $10 billion in the project. The company has already launched the first of these satellites and plans to have 578 in orbit by 2026.
This move is part of Amazon's broader strategy to expand its reach beyond online retail and into other areas, such as cloud computing and entertainment. By providing internet access to underserved communities, Amazon hopes to tap into a new market while also contributing to bridging the digital divide. The deployment of internet satellites could also provide competition to existing internet service providers, potentially driving down prices and improving service quality.
