Panim, Goa (India), August 13: The ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India) Goa Development Council Organised a conference on Cold Chain Special focus on Infrastructure - Capacity Building & Technology. The conference was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Industries, Shri. Mauvin Godinho as the chief guest. Smt. Swetika Sachan IAS, Director, Directorate of Industries, Trade & Commerce, CEO of IPB and Shri. Pravimal Abhishek IAS, MD, Goa IDC was the special guest of the sessions. A knowledge paper was unveiled by the chief guest titled “Cold Chain Revolution: Transforming Goa into distribution hub” which was jointly prepared by ASSOCHAM Goa Council & Grant Thornton team.
The Objective of this conference was to discuss various strategies, challenges, and ways forward with to enhance the robust growth of cold chain logistics and warehousing to strengthen further the development of the agriculture, fisheries, food processing, pharma, health care, and chemical industries across the state of Goa. The conference witnessed deliberation and insights from eminent speakers and important industry stakeholders.
Shri, Mauvin Godinho, the Hon’ble Minister of Industries govt of Goa said that the Cold chain industry is crucial to food & medical drugs safety which helps in reducing wastage and increasing the shelf life of industrial perishable products, and this Industry is expected to grow significantly in coming years. He also said that the Government welcomes investment in the cold chain from the private sector as increasing demand for these products is driving its growth. Further, he said that ASSOCHAM Goa’s knowledge paper will surely help to achieve robust growth in this sector.
Shri. Manguriish Pai Raikar, Chairman ASSOCHAM Goa Council said that Goa has a unique identity that has a port, airport, railways, and road connectivity networks in a range of 10 km and the RoRo service of railways facilitates the smooth flow of goods and now promotes Goa further as a trade hub new investments in the cold chain, warehousing, truck terminals, capacity building is envisaged and the ASSOCHAM Goa council will make attempts in bringing to the Government new investment for the state. Dr. Sagar Salgaocar, Co-Chair of ASSOCHAM Goa council said that to further promote Goa as a trade hub ASSOCHAM’s knowledge partner intends to give insights to the food processing and pharma industries and suggest a road map for building a logistic hub in the state of Goa. Smt. Pallavi Salgaocar, chairwoman of empowerment, excellently moderated the panel discussion and Shri. Mangirish Salelkar, chair IT committee proposed a vote of thanks.
