US District Judge John Coughenour has dismissed bids from Amazon and Apple to expel the prospective class action on various legal grounds. It was said that Amazon.com and Apple must face an antitrust litigation, for inflating the prices of Apple products sold on Amazon merchandise platforms. The first lawsuit was filed against this central issue, in November last year, by several private and government firms that pointed out the online pricing in the purchase of Apple Ipads, and iPhones in Amazon.com.
The main target of the lawsuit is an agreement that was signed by both parties in 2019. Amazon has agreed to minimize the number of Apple product resellers, wherein as a sign of exchange apple agreed to give a 10% exclusive discount on its products, for customers buying through Amazon. But during the litigation, lawyers representing Apple resented the terms of the agreement stating that it was, meant only to prevent the forged copies of their products. The US customers who purchased Apple products in the year 2019 are the major plaintiffs of this case.
Amazon failed to abide by the agreement, by increasing the number of resellers and rising the pricing to more than 10%. However, the lawyers from both parties did not immediately revert to the questions raised by the Judge.
