Vygr Host: To start with, could you please tell us about your journey and how you got involved in the educational field?
S.K Shukla: Certainly. When I was a child, my father worked at Scooter India, and we had a side business with taxis and autos. I began taking taxes from drivers around class 5. Later, around the age of 15, I organised cricket tournaments in Lucknow. After completing my BTech at United College, I pursued my MTech and entered teaching in renowned engineering colleges. I managed projects at IIT Bombay, like the 'Spoken Tutorial.' Eventually, I transitioned to coaching and began teaching engineering students. I used to wait for the Wednesday newspaper to find new job applications. My venture into consultancy started when I recognized a need for a platform connecting job seekers with providers in a unidirectional way. We focus on the education sector, leveraging my background in education and connections with faculties, directors etc of well-known national brands like Maharashtra.
Vygr Host: How did you identify the demand for a platform connecting educators and those seeking them ? What prompted you to start such a venture?
S.K Shukla: The demand became evident through my personal experience of job searching and the realisation that existing platforms were multi-directional. I did qualify twice for government jobs but I did not join . While searching for a job, I observed the challenges and lack of assurance in the process. Inspired by books like Rashmi Bansal's "Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish,” and success stories like Bhavish Aggarwal,Ola founder; I decided to create a platform that specifically caters to the education sector. I did not want to waste time finding the next job with no guarantee. We aim to provide assurance and guidance to job seekers and educators.
Vygr Host: TKL Consultancy focuses on providing educators to institutes in a unidirectional manner. How does your platform differ from others in the market ?
S.K Shukla: While there are many platforms in the market, our uniqueness lies in offering a unidirectional flow. Unlike multi-directional platforms, we concentrate on connecting teachers specifically with institutes. Additionally, we have extended our platform to include home tutors in 14 cities, primarily in Maharashtra. This gives teachers an alternative path, allowing them to become home tutors and earn well. We are working in the education sector and want to be number one.
Vygr Host: You mentioned having tie-ups with premium institutes across the country. In a service-oriented industry like yours, where do you face the most challenges ?
S.K Shukla: The primary challenge lies in managing customer relationships and loyalty. In our consultancy business, the main revenue is generated from the 15-day salary of the placed candidate, which is crucial to run the business as we have more than 96 staff working in Pan India. The major issue arises when clients refuse to pay, impacting our ability to compensate our staff. Building trust with customers is crucial. We ensure that our teachers and faculty members have faith in our consultancy, and we only work with those who adhere to our principles of honesty. Ensuring that clients pay on time is crucial to sustaining the business. It's a delicate balance that requires building trust with both educators and institutes.
Vygr Host: Can you shed some light on the selection process for educators on your platform ? How do you ensure the quality of educators provided by TKL ?
S.K Shukla: We have a meticulous selection process. I was teaching mathematics and have an experience of about 14 years and my staff is also well educated. All are welcomed to register on our platform. After an initial round of screening through calls and resume evaluations, we conduct a test using our platform, available on our website and Google Play Store, which is the second round. This standardised test helps us gauge the candidates' abilities and determines their placement and remuneration. This is our system.
Vygr Host: Looking ahead, where do you see TKL Consultancy in the next 2-3 years ? Do you have plans for expansion or diversification ?
S.K Shukla: Hailing from UP, we have seen many startups reach new heights. The building blocks of this platform were put down back in 2015, while I was teaching. I took a calculated risk. I opened a business for home tutors called’ Tuition Kr Lo’, which we expanded.
Our focus is on expanding our reach in the education sector. We plan to extend our home tuition services to more cities, including Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, and additional locations in Maharashtra like Mumbai. While we aim for geographical expansion, our mode and commitment to the education sector remains unwavering.
