Welcome Back Daewoo! South Korea's car giant re-enters the Indian market.

With a wave of nostalgia, South Korean company Daewoo announced its heartfelt return to the Indian market on Wednesday. For those who remember, Daewoo had left an indelible mark in India's automotive landscape in the 1990s. The familiar name resurfaces with a range of power and energy products, evoking memories of their iconic models like Cielo, Nexia, and Matiz.

Chan Ryu, Director of Daewoo India Operations, shared, "In this momentous return, we're not only introducing a comprehensive range of power and energy products, encompassing batteries for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers, along with inverter and solar batteries, but also rekindling the spirit of an era gone by."

The story of Daewoo in India began in 1995, when the brand made its debut with the elegant Cielo. This was followed by the beloved Nexia and the compact marvel, Matiz. These vehicles became a part of countless journeys, etching fond memories in the hearts of many.
In 2001, General Motors (GM) took the reins of the company's global assets, leaving behind a cherished legacy in India. While the company underwent changes on a global scale, its presence in India was a chapter that stayed alive in the memories of enthusiasts.

Daewoo's return is accompanied by a strategic partnership with Kelwon Electronics and Appliances Private Limited, based in Gurugram. Leading the charge is H.S. Bhatia, a name familiar to many from his tenure at LG and Airtel. Bhatia's expertise and passion for the brand make him the perfect custodian of Daewoo's legacy in India.

Looking ahead, Ryu shared, "In the coming year, as part of our Consumer Durables portfolio, we plan to introduce a range of products that hark back to the days of innovation and reliability. Air purifiers, LED televisions, audio speakers, water purifiers, smart fans, air coolers, home automation systems, and an array of small home and kitchen appliances will echo the spirit of the Daewoo that India remembers."

Additionally, Daewoo has exciting plans to reintroduce a captivating line of e-bikes and e-cycles, tapping into the growing trend of eco-friendly mobility solutions.
As the wheel turns and Daewoo returns, it carries with it not just a range of products, but a slice of India's automotive history, waiting to create new memories and stories for the generations to come.
