Online dating has been in the limelight for the past few years, making it quite easy to connect with like-minded people seamlessly. The convenience comes along with a sour truth: dating apps have turned into a den for scammers. According to the police, many men have been cheated in very critical dating traps laid by women using the apps Tinder and Bumble, both connected to these online dating apps in Mumbai. How the Scams Work
The scams traditionally start with a mutual like on a well-known dating app. One pretends to be a genuine lover and establishes a quick and seemingly reliable relationship with his victim. After that, he would suggest shifting their conversation to another platform, for example, WhatsApp. The one who got the trust would start persuading the user to transfer his money – with the excuse of some emergency cases.

Recent reports indicate that 12 people from Mumbai have recently become the victims of one or another such scam, with one individual losing more than ₹61,000. Victims are lured by promises of relationship or companionship.
